NFL Notes: Earl Thomas, Raiders, Seahawks

Earl Thomas

On Tuesday, a report surfaced that Seahawks S Earl Thomas went up to Raiders owner Mark Davis while in Las Vegas and told him to “come get him.” (NFLTR)

  • Michael Gehlken of Las Vegas Journal Review spoke with a person familiar with conversation who had a different account.
  • According to Gehlken, Thomas and Davis recently exchanged pleasantries in Las Vegas and someone asked Thomas if he was holding out. Thomas responded in jest: “Why? You guys coming to get me?”
  • Gehlken adds that the Raiders an unlikely to be a fit for Thomas anyways.

Raiders

  • Matt Schneidman of the Mercury News writes that it would not be surprising to see first-round pick Kolton Miller beat out veteran Donald Penn for the starting left tackle job this summer.
  • Schneidman adds that HC Jon Gruden “loves” what he saw from Miller during the team’s offseason program, and Penn was limited while rehabilitating a foot injury.
  • Raiders OC Greg Olson said that veteran RB Doug Martin “jumped out” during the offseason program. (San Francisco Chronicle)

Seahawks

  • Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Seahawks are not ready to give S Earl Thomas the kind of contract extension he’s seeking.
  • Rapoport mentions that the three-year, $36M extension Seattle gave to S Kam Chancellor last year could factor into the team’s reluctance to hand out another big-money deal.
