NFL Notes: Eli Manning, Bernard Pollard, Bengals, & Redskins

Eli Manning

Giants owner John Mara said that they would “ideally” have an extension in place for QB Eli Manning before the start of the season.

“The agent asks for the moon; we make a reasonable offer,” said Mara of the situation, per Kimberly Jones.

Bernard Pollard

Free agent S Bernard Pollard said that he’s spoken to five or six teams that are interested in possibly signing him to a contract. However, he’s yet to take a visit to any of these teams.

Everything has been talking so far,” Pollard said, via the Tennessean. “That’s the weird part for me, but the talk has been productive with every team I’ve talked to.

“It’s just one of those things where you look at the Achilles and you look at the age and everyone is acting like I’m ancient. I’m definitely not. But at the same time, I understand their concerns.

“We’ve talked about what I want and I understand what they’re willing to give. Until we meet common ground, I’m going to stay ready.”

Bengals

  • Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Bengals have “aggressively pursued” a contract extension for WR A.J. Green and have made it “clear that he’s their number one priority.”
  • Jason La Canfora reports that there’s a “good chance” the Bengals will sign WR Greg Little to a contract following his workout.

Redskins

Chris Russell tells 106.7 The Fan (via CBS Washington) that Redskins HC Jay Gruden had given up on QB Robert Griffin III as early as last preseason.

Russell’s source said that three days after the Redskins’ first preseason game against the Patriots, “Jay was completely at his wits’ end and wanted nothing to do with Robert.”

On a separate topic, Russell’s source said that team owner Dan Snyder had called Gruden’s agent, Bob LaMonte, to tell him his client was “stealing money.
