NFL Notes: Eric Weddle, Roger Goodell, & Broncos

Eric Weddle

Eric Weddle tells Kevin Acee of the Union-Tribune explained his decision to join the Ravens on Monday.

“There is a reason why they’re the Ravens – the culture, the winning – and it just showed throughout the whole process,” Weddle said. “They were adamant about what they thought about me, what I bring, how I could help on and off the field.

“At the end of the day, it was just their continued effort. And it wasn’t just the contract stuff. It was what they said, what they thought, how we talked. They just showed me they want me.

Weddle added that he was set on signing with Baltimore as of Sunday night.

You think of Baltimore, you think of winning, you think defense, you think blue collar, grinding, guys working together,” Weddle said. “When I went to bed (Sunday) night and I was trying to decide which team, Baltimore just kept popping in my head. When it comes down to it, my heart was there.”

Roger Goodell

  • The Wall Street Journal is reporting that NFL and the NFL players union are moving closer to a deal in which Commissioner Roger Goodell would relinquish power over off-the-field player discipline.
  • However, there is no deal right now and significant obstacles remain, which means an agreement is not expected any time soon.

Broncos

  • Troy Renck of the Denver Post reports that the Broncos were still deciding whether or not to patch the Dolphins’ offer sheet for RB C.J. Anderson as of an hour ago.
  • Renck believes they could make it work if they want to, even though the deal is front-loaded.
  • A person in the know tells Renck that no decision has been made by Denver way or another.
