NFL Notes: Falcons, Jets, Raiders, Redskins

Falcons

Falcons RB Devonta Freeman said that he’s isn’t frustrated with the Falcons and the talk that he deserves to be paid like an elite back.

I’m not frustrated. She didn’t say that,” said Freeman, via John Kryk of the Toronto Sun. “I’m just happy to be here. I couldn’t be frustrated. This is a dream come true. God blessed me to put me in this position for a reason, and I’ve got take this, and accept this, and be thankful for this.”

Jets

Former Jets and Bills HC Rex Ryan said he would “never” rule out returning to the New York Jets.

I’m definitely never going to say never on that one,” Ryan said via Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News. “I love New York. I do. I love the people. I got a ton of friends — lifelong friends-in that organization. I’ll never say never. I don’t know in what capacity, but I’ll leave that open for sure.

Raiders

  • Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports that city officials reached out to NFL and Raiders’ officials about possibly moving to San Diego if the franchise does not move to Las Vegas.
  • According to Acee, San Diego’s proposed development calls for a 20,000 seat Major League Soccer stadium, while also saving 16-acres of land for an NFL stadium.
  • Nathan Fenno of the LA Times spoke to a person familiar regarding the recent developments in Las Vegas involving the Raiders who said: “The bankers followed the money and the money wasn’t with the Raiders.”

Redskins

  • Rich Tandler of CSN Mid-Atlantic believes it would be wise for the Redskins to extend G Brandon Scherff after the 2017 season, so they do not have to activate his fifth-year option in 2019, which will pay him over $11 million.
  • Tandler expects the Redskins to cut C Kory Lichtensteiger and save $3.5 million in cap space, or renegotiate his contract convert his $3.25 million base salary into an incentive-based deal.
  • Additionally, Tandler would not be surprised to see the Redskins sign C Spencer Long to an extension since he is entering the final year of his rookie contract.
