NFL Notes: Free Agency, Browns, Chargers, Giants

Free Agency

• Ian Rapoport said on NFL Network that former Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles is getting “a lot” more interest than RB Adrian Peterson on the free agent market. (Chris Wesseling)
• Ben Goessling reports that the Vikings have checked in on free agent QB Nick Foles but “nothing substantive” has happened up to this point.
• According to Alden Gonzalez of ESPN, the Rams are not expected to re-sign free agent S T.J. McDonald since he will likely price himself out of a deal with the team.
• Scott Bair of CSN Bay Area reports that the Raiders are still in the mix to re-sign free agent WR Andre Holmes, who has also gained interest from other teams around the NFL.
• Dianna Russini reports that the Redskins never made a contract offer to re-sign DE Chris Baker, who signed with the Buccaneers.

Browns

• Ian Rapoport‘s understanding is that the Browns are still expected to make a run at acquiring Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo. However, he does not believe New England wants to trade him.

Chargers

• Mike Klis of 9News would not be surprised to see the NFL look into taking a draft pick away from the Chargers for possibly tampering with OT Russell Okung prior to the start of free agency.
• According to Klis, league sources believe the Chargers may have tampered with Okung, who was not allowed to begin negotiations until 2 p.m. on Thursday.

Giants

• According to Jordan Raanan, the Giants and DE Jason Pierre-Paul are “not close” on a contract extension and a deal was not expected prior to the start of free agency.
