NFL Notes: Bills, Sammy Watkins, Giants & Packers

Bills

Bills WR Sammy Watkins (foot) mentioned that his goal is to be back for training camp, but it’s possible he could sit out the first few days.

“For training camp, I think I’ll definitely be available,” Watkins said, via TSN.ca. “I might sit out two or three days. It’s all about how I feel within those days. The goal is to come back and be prepared for training camp.

Watkins added that they still plan to take things slow as he works to be back at full speed.

Basically we are just taking it slow,” Watkins said, “doing the little things now as far as cutting and moving around; the basics. There’s really no timetable. It’s really when I feel healthy, when I am healthy.

“The important part is getting on the field and staying healthy. So, basically my whole summer will be staying in Buffalo getting better.”

Giants

  • Veteran CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and first-round rookie Eli Apple rotated at the slot and outside corner positions during practice this week, according to James Kratch of NJ.com.
  • Kratch mentions that CB Trevin Wade continued to get a good amount of work in the slot at practice this week.
  • In regards to Apple, Kratch believes it would be ideal for him to start off at nickel, despite the fact that he did not play at the position during college.

Packers

Michael Cohen of the Journal Sentinel takes a look at Packers WRs coach Luke Getsy, who is considered to be a rising star within the organization.

Packers HC Mike McCarthy spoke highly of the job he’s done for them this summer.

“Luke has a great foundation,” McCarthy said last week. “And now that he’s the No. 1 guy in the room, he’s done a very good job. He’s taken ownership of it and he’s been creative with his fundamentals. I think he’s off to a great start.”
