NFL Notes: Greg Hardy, Browns, Giants, Saints, Steelers

Greg Hardy

  • Joel Corry of CBS Sports mentioned in an interview with Joe Person of the Charlotte Observer that Panthers impending free agent DE Greg Hardy could be “too toxic” to secure a long-term contract on the open market.

“We’re talking about a 15-sack guy. Pass rushers are paid a premium typically, and ones in the primes of their career usually don’t hit the market,” Corry said. “The only question is whether this current climate with domestic violence could have a chilling effect in terms of his market.

Giants

Giants owner John Mara said he believes QB Eli Manning has a “lot of good years let.”

“We still think he’s in his prime and still has a lot of good years left,” Mara said, via Tom Rock of Newsday. “It lifts the whole franchise when you have a quarterback who can play at that level.

Manning, 33, is in the six year of his seven-year, $106.9 million contract that includes $35 million guaranteed. He’ll make a base salary of $17 million for the 2015 season, but Mara has said previously that they could sign him to an extension after the season.

“I wouldn’t anticipate even having those discussions until after the season is over,” Mara said back in early October. “That’s something we haven’t even talked about.
