NFL Notes: Greg Hardy, Buccaneers, Jets, & Packers

Greg Hardy

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones issued a statement on Friday regarding Greg Hardy and the graphic images of his ex-girlfriend that surfaced.

While we did not have access to the photos that became public today, we were and are aware of the serious nature of this incident. We as an organization take very this seriously. We do not condone domestic violence. We entered into the agreement with Greg fully understanding that there would be scrutiny and criticism. We have given Greg a second chance. He is a member of our team and someone who is grateful for the opportunity he has been given to move forward with his life and his career,” via Todd Archer of ESPN.

Buccaneers

Buccaneers HC Lovie Smith said he is torn between starting Gosder Cherilus or Demar Dotson at right tackle.

It’s a tough decision when you have two players (Dotson and Cherilus) that you like and think you can win with,” Smith said. “But it’s still the guy who you think gives you the best chance to win. If you have two players who are ready to go, you evaluate those two. If that means you keep the same group you kept in previous weeks, that’s fine. But if there’s somebody better and they’re healthy and ready to go, put them in there.”

It is worth mentioning that Dotson is officially eligible to play this week, after sitting on the designated to return list with a knee injury. Smith even said that Dotson is “back in the mix,” to be a starter.

However, Cherilus has played well and could have made a case to continue with the first-team.

Jets

  • Rich Cimini of ESPN writes that there’s a “good chance” the Jets re-sign veteran QB Ryan Fitzpatrick next year, as he could end up being the ideal “bridge” quarterback.

Packers

Bob McGinn of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that there have been no talks between LS Brett Goode‘s agent and the Packers.

Not that I’ve heard of,” Goode said Friday. “You go play the games, and if it’s meant to work out it’s meant to work out.

This is noteworthy, considering that the Packers have approached him several months before the start of the offseason to get a deal done.
