NFL Notes: Greg Hardy, Colts, Jaguars

Greg Hardy

  • Former NFL DE Greg Hardy won his first MMA fight Saturday night with a 32-second knock out of Joe Hawkins, according to James Walker.
  • Hardy tells Walker that he is “fully committed” to MMA and wants to continue his career all the way to the UFC.
  • Hardy later said that he hasn’t ruled out a possible return to the NFL before adding that his heart and mind are focused on MMA, per Walker.

Colts

  • The Colts announced Saturday that veteran CB Vontae Davis did not travel with the team to Houston for their Week 9 game against the Texans and this was not related to injury.
  • According to Pro Football Talk, Davis needs more treatment on his previously-injured groin, which explains why he didn’t travel with the team.
  • An NFL source tells Stephen Holder of the Indy Star that this was a “coaching decision.
  • Holder mentions that he personally saw Davis practice this week and he was “largely fine” even though his groin injury likely is not 100 percent.
  • It’s worth pointing out that Davis’ name came up as a potential trade candidate last week and he will be a free agent after this season.

Jaguars

The Jaguars announced Sunday that RB Leonard Fournette was activated for Week 9’s game due to a violation of team rules.

“Fournette is not playing today due to an infraction of a team rule. This has been addressed internally,” Doug Marrone said.

Field Yates reports that one of the reasons why Fournette was deactivated was because he skipped the team’s photo earlier this week.

Jay Glazer reports that Fournette also missed treatment and a workout this week, which is why he was benched.

  • Despite designating rookie WR Dede Westbrook to return from injured reserve this week, the Jaguars did not activate him on Saturday, which means he’s officially out for Week 9.
  • Adam Schefter reports that Westbrook will likely be active next week.
