NFL Notes: HC Hot Seat, Bears, Lions & Panthers

HC Hot Seat

Jason La Canfora runs down some head coaches who could enter the season on the proverbial hot seat.

According to La Canfora, the coaches most in danger of being replaced with a disappointing 2016 season are: Bills HC Rex Ryan, Jaguars HC Gus Bradley, Lions HC Jim Caldwell, Chargers HC Mike McCoy, Bengals HC Marvin Lewis, Texans HC Bill O’Brien and Cowboys HC Jason Garrett.

La Canfora assess all 32 head coaches in his article, so it’s worth a read if you’re interested.

Bears

Bears veteran OL Manny Ramirez explained why he elected to retire from the NFL earlier in the week.

It is something I have been thinking about the last few weeks and I have been in prayer about it,” Ramirez said, via Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune. “It’s not a decision I made randomly. It’s something I have been dealing with and when it’s time, it’s time. When your body tells you something, you can’t really go against it. This isn’t a game where you can just try to make it. I respect the game too much to try to do something like that and there is too much at risk. When your body doesn’t want to do what is required at this level, I wanted to play it smart. I always told myself the day I feel that way is the day I will walk away. Definitely feel at peace about it. It is time to move on and I feel God has bigger and better things for me.”

Lions

  • Former Lions RB Joique Bell tells Sirius XM NFL Radio that there’s “no bad blood with the Lions and I understand it’s a business.”
  • Bell added that the two sides just couldn’t agree on a contract in the end.
  • In regards to interested teams, Bell said he didn’t want to reveal them right now and instead plans to allow his agent to handle the matter. (Sirius XM NFL Radio)

Panthers

Panthers DT Star Lotulelei says the team hasn’t approached him about a long-term extension as of now. However, he did make it clear that he’s hoping to remain with the Panthers.

It’s a great organization and a great team. I’ve grown to love this place,” Lotulelei said, via Joe Person of the Charlotte Observer. “I’m going to play as hard as I can, work as hard as I can and we’ll see what happens.”
