NFL Notes: Hue Jackson, Eagles, Ravens

Hue Jackson

  • According to Adam Schefter, the Browns are paying former HC Hue Jackson $4.75 million in base salary for the 2018 season.
  • Jackson’s assistant coach position with the Bengals will pay him only a pro-rated portion of $250,000.
  • Baker Mayfield criticized Jackson for his decision to sign with the Bengals shortly after being fired by the Browns: “Left Cleveland, goes down to Cincinnati, that’s just somebody that’s in our locker room, asking us to play for him, and then goes to a team that we play twice a year? Everybody can have their spin on it, but that’s how I feel.” (Pro Football Talk)

Eagles

  • Ian Rapoport reports that the Eagles are planning to feature RB Josh Adams as their starting running back moving forward.
  • According to Rapoport, Eagles QB Carson Wentz has impressed people with his return from his ACL/LCL injury this season. However, a person with knowledge of his rehab explained to Rapoport that Wentz is just scratching the surface in his recovery.
  • Rapoport adds that Wentz should be able to get rid of his knee brace next season.

Ravens

  • Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, citing a league source, reports that Ravens players believe that John Harbaugh will be gone unless they get to the playoffs.
  • According to Florio, multiple sources believe Harbaugh would instantly draw interest as a head coach with another team and possibly lead to some teams considering making a coaching change at a time when they otherwise aren’t.
  • When asked about who will be the Ravens’ starting quarterback next week, Harbaugh said: “I’m not going to get into that for a number of reasons. Whether that decision has been made or not is not important for anybody to know but us. If I decide to do it one way or the other, I don’t want our opponent to know.” (Jeff Zrebiec)
