NFL Notes: Jaguars, Jets, Lions, Rams, & Seahawks

Jaguars

Jaguars GM David Caldwell explained that their decision to decline OT Luke Joeckel‘s fifth-year option doesn’t mean they won’t sign him to an extension after the 2016 season.

“If he plays great next year, we’ll pay him, but for us to be locked into that number didn’t make sense,” Caldwell told Sirius XM NFL Radio. “It wasn’t about him. I told him we want him to be here for a long time, and retire a Jaguar.”

Jets

  • Jets GM Mike Maccagnan didn’t rule out the possibility of re-signing CB Dee Milliner to an extension, depending on how he plays in 2016. (Kimberly A. Martin)
  • Maccagnan admitted that they liked DE/OLB Shaq Lawsonquite a bit” before he was drafted by the Bills. (Seth Walder)

Lions

  • The Lions have invited Purdue DT Ryan Watson and Hillsdale DT Roger Stewart to their rookie minicamp on tryout basis. (Aaron Wilson)

Rams

  • Nick Wagoner mentions that the Rams would still like to get extensions done with LB Alec Ogletree and, especially, WR Tavon Austin before they’re playing under their 2017 options salaries.

Seahawks

Seahawks HC Pete Carroll mentioned during an interview with Sirius XM NFL Radio that first-round pick Germain Ifedi will start off at guard during his rookie year.

We will start Germain Ifedi inside but we have options with him and J’Marcus Webb at right tackle,” Carroll said. “We’ll see how it plays out.”
