NFL Notes: Jaguars, Rams, Redskins

Jaguars

The Jaguars spent big money on CB A.J. Bouye this offseason, signing him to a  five-year, $67.5 million contract that includes $26 million guaranteed.

Bouye mentioned that he’s “excited to try to live up to the hype” after signing his big-money deal several months ago.

“I’m excited to try to live up to the hype,” Bouye said, via NFL.com. “We know there’s going to be a lot of people watching, but we’re very excited. It’s tough to say [how good we will be] right now, because we haven’t been in games together yet. We’re physical corners and we like to tackle. We like to play aggressive. We’re going to be in your face. We’re going to play tight coverage. We’re going to come hit, talk trash, all that. There’s a lot of great corners in the league, and it’s an honor to be considered a top tandem. We just want to go out there and prove that we can be.”

Rams

  • Alden Gonzalez mentions that it doesn’t appear as though anything has changed between the Rams and franchise CB Trumaine Johnson in days leading up to the deadline to negotiate an extension.
  • According to Gonzalez, the expectation remains that a deal won’t get done by Monday’s deadline and he’ll end up playing out the 2017 season under his second franchise tag.

Redskins

  • According to Jason Cole of B/R, former Redskins GM Scot McCloughan wanted to give QB Kirk Cousins a contract extension before the 2015 season. However, other members of the Redskins’ front office ultimately declined.
  • Cole explains that McCloughan wanted Cousins under contract long term at around $12 million per year, but once his asking price increased to over $20 million per year in 2016, McCloughan became uncomfortable.
