NFL Notes: Jason Pierre-Paul, Dolphins, Eagles, & Patriots

Jason Pierre-Paul

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reports that Giants trainer Ronnie Barnes and former Giants linebacker Jessie Armstead both traveled to South Florida to visit with DE Jason Pierre-Paul without determining whether he was willing to meet with them.

According to Florio, it would be a “major surprise” if Pierre-Paul signed his tender before he was cleared to play, given that the Giants could then place him on the non-football injury list.

Doing so could cost JPP the first six games of the season.

Pierre-Paul’s preference would be for the Giants to rescind the franchise, and become an unrestricted free agent.

Multiple sources tell Florio that Pierre-Paul’s nerve damage stemming from his fireworks accident is believed to be short term in nature.

Dolphins

  • James Walker of ESPN.com writes that Dolphins RB Damien Williams is among the players on the roster bubble entering training camp.
  • Walker gives Williams a 50 percent shot at making the final 53-man roster this summer, but adds that he’ll likely have to compete with LaMichael James for a roster spot.

Eagles

  • Eliot Shorr-Parks puts the odds of Mark Sanchez either winning the starting quarterback job outright or taking over after an injury at “30-35 percent.”

Patriots

Patriots WR Brandon LaFell mentioned during an interview with Sirius XM NFL Radio on Wednesday that he’s no longer sporting a boot on his injured foot.

“Just a few lingering injuries that happened in the late part of the regular season that I just played through throughout the playoffs,” LaFell said, via Mike Reiss of ESPN.com. “Finally got some time off to let my body heal up properly; I’m out of the boot now and I’m just looking forward to starting camp.
