NFL Notes: Jay Cutler, Cowboys, Dolphins, & Giants

Jay Cutler

Jason Cole of B/R reports that Bears QB Jay Cutler‘s thumb injury is expected to keep him out for an “extended period of time.”

Additionally, the Bears were hoping to make a long-term decision on Cutler by the end of this season, which could now be prolonged because of this injury.

Given that Cutler has an affordable 2017 salary, Cole says this may keep him on the Bears’ roster for another year.

Cowboys

  • Jason Cole also reports that the NFLPA opted not to appeal Cowboys DE Randy Gregory‘s 14 game suspension, although people within the NFL believe the union could have negotiated a lesser penalty for Gregory.

Dolphins

  • Dan Graziano of ESPN reports the Dolphins are “cautiously optimistic” about RB Arian Foster‘s groin injury and have not yet ruled him out of Week 3.
  • The Dolphins reportedly want to see how much Foster is able to practice this week before determining his availability, while they may not have a good idea on his status until Thursday or Friday.
  • Regardless, Graziano writes that the Dolphins are comfortable moving forward with Kenyan Drake, Jay Ajayi and Isaiah Pead if Foster cannot play on Sunday.

Giants

Giants RB Rashad Jennings said he will have the cast on his left hand removed in time for Wednesday’s practice and that he will play through his injury.

I plan on practicing tomorrow, going out there and running, going through the normal stuff,” said Jennings, via Tom Rock. “This is something I’ve got to deal with. The cost of playing football.”

Jennings also admit that he is still experiencing pain, while he is unsure of what the injury is after X-rays did not reveal any bone damage.
