NFL Notes: Jaylon Smith, Robert Nkemdiche, Draft, & Browns

Jaylon Smith

Notre Dame LB Jaylon Smith admitted that doctors still don’t have a timetable for him to return to football activities.

At this point, the doctors still don’t have a timetable,” Smith writes, via BleacherReport.com. “I could be ready to start the season, or I could miss the entire season. Anything more definitive is just speculation. What I do know is this: Once I’m 100 percent healthy and feeling comfortable, I’ll be back on the field and dominating.”

Smith added that he still views himself as the best player in this year’s draft class.

“I’m the best player in the draft,” Smith writes. “I just didn’t get the opportunity to show it as far as the combine and draft process. Watch the film. Any game. It speaks for itself.

“Whichever team drafts me, I’ll be happy. One team will believe in me, whether it’s as a top-10 pick, Mr. Irrelevant or an undrafted free agent.

Robert Nkemdiche

  • Ian Rapoport reports that Ole Miss DL Robert Nkemdiche is visiting the Chargers on Wednesday.
  • Michael Gehlken adds that Nkemdiche is also visiting with the Saints and Bengals.
  • According to Jordan Raanan, NFL teams still have questions about him off the field and as a person. Raanan adds that Nkemdiche will also visit with the Giants.

Draft

Adam Schefter expects Jared Goff and Carson Wentz to come off the board within the first four picks of the draft.

“I think the two quarterbacks,” Schefter said, via NJ.com. “In one way or another are off the board in the first-four picks. They’re gone. They’re not lasting any longer than that. It wouldn’t even surprise me if they’re gone in the first two picks.”

Interestingly enough, Schefter mentions that the Cowboys would “love” to get Wentz, even in a trade-up scenario, while the Saints could be a “dark-horse” team to move up a for a quarterback.

“I could see Tennessee selling the pick to a team that goes quarterback,” Schefter added. “I could see Cleveland not going quarterback or even selling their pick. I think Dallas would love to land Carson Wentz, even if it takes moving up.

“I’ll give you another dark-horse team to watch when it comes to quarterbacks. They’re a dark-horse. The New Orleans Saints. They went quarterback in the third-round last year with Garrett Grayson. I think if there’s a quarterback they could get, it wouldn’t shock me if they make a move. But, I wouldn’t put them in the same boat as I do Niners, Eagles, Rams, Jets and Broncos.

Browns

ESPN’s Adam Schefter mentioned during an appearance 97.5 FM The Fanatic Wednesday that he doesn’t think the Browns will draft a quarterback at No. 2 overall.

“I think Cleveland at two, right now if it were to stand where it is,” Schefter said, via NJ.com. “I don’t think the Browns are going quarterback. My belief two weeks out is that if I had to guess, the Cleveland Browns will not be going quarterback.”
