NFL Notes: Jeff Fisher, A.J. Brown, 2019 DL Class

Jeff Fisher

Former Rams and Titans HC Jeff Fisher, who will reportedly call at least one game for FOX this year (NFLTR), says he doesn’t want to commit to doing a full slate of games this year and is still hoping to coach at some point.

“I don’t think 15-16 games in the fall is something I wanna do right now because I still have that desire to get back on the sideline,” Fisher tells Sirius XM NFL Radio.

A.J. Brown

Daniel Jeremiah of NFL.com offers an early scouting report on Ole Miss WR A.J. Brown, who’s considered to be one of the top receiver prospects in next year’s draft class.

  • Jeremiah mentions that Brown has outstanding size and is extremely physical before and after the catch. Although, Jeremiah admits that Brown lacks elite burst.
  • Jeremiah says he would like to see Brown get more opportunities on the outside this season and produce more against some of the top secondaries in college football.
  • As for an NFL comparison, Jeremiah tosses out Steelers WR JuJu Smith-Schuster, as they both have outstanding size, play strength and competitiveness.

2019 DL Class

An NFL college scouting director tells Albert Breer of TheMMQB.com that the 2019 defensive line class could end up being one of the deepest positional groups in recent memory.

“If the top juniors declare, the 2019 defensive line class could be one of the deeper position in recent memory—at any position,” the scouting director said. “There will good players drafted each day [at those positions].”

An NFC executive highlighted a few prospects in next year’s class including Ohio State’s Nick Bosa, Houston’s Ed Oliver and Michigan’s Rashan Gary.

[Nick is] not as rangy [as Joey], but just as freaky and he’s stronger. He’s hell on wheels,” said the NFC. “[Houston’s] Ed Oliver … [I was at a game where] he sprints down the field in pursuit, goes from a dead sprint to a stop and uncoils on the runner. He looked like a linebacker at 300 pounds, an absolute freak. … The Michigan kid [Rashan Gary]—height, weight, speed, he’s not as instinctive, but just a phenom.”
