NFL Notes: Jeff Fisher, Patriots, Ravens & Saints

Jeff Fisher

Rams HC Jeff Fisher confirmed after Sunday’s loss to the Patriots that he has, in fact, signed a contract extension with the team.

“You know, the discussion started at the end of the year, last year,” Fisher said, per Pro Football Talk. “Then they moved into the offseason, so I agreed with the organization well before the season started.

Fisher mentioned that he agreed to the new extension during the offseason, despite the fact that neither he nor the team announced the agreement.

Yes, sometime in the offseason,” Fisher said. ” It’s not my personal position to go ahead and release that stuff, so I was very appreciative with respect to Stan [Kroenke], knowing what we were going through. And you know, it somehow got out. So, I am expecting to be the coach of the franchise; however, I fully understand that the wins and losses fall on my shoulders. You know, that is the fact of our business. And I get that. And as I said, I’m not looking over my shoulder, I’m doing everything I can, on a daily basis, to get this team to win football games.”

Fisher finished the line of questioning by saying that he expects to be the team’s head coach for the 2017 season.

Yes, sometime in the offseason,” Fisher said. “It’s not my personal position to go ahead and release that stuff, so I was very appreciative with respect to Stan [Kroenke], knowing what we were going through. And you know, it somehow got out. So, I am expecting to be the coach of the franchise; however, I fully understand that the wins and losses fall on my shoulders. I highly appreciate the support from all my teammates, friends and family and the courage to stay strong. I am excited to knock this rehab out and get this core extra strong and looking super fresh to get this body back out on the field.
