NFL Notes: Jeremy Maclin, Eagles, Falcons

Jeremy Maclin

New Ravens WR Jeremy Maclin tells ESPN’s Adam Schefter that the Chiefs left him a voicemail upon informing him of his release.

“I was on a flight, so clearly he couldn’t get to me. So you know he left me a voicemail but the issue is they released me so late on Friday I wouldn’t become a free agent til Monday anyways. So I would at least think that, you know, have the respect for me enough to at least have a conversation with me. You know what I mean, not really find out through a voicemail,” Maclin said.

So I think that’s where, in my opinion, the problem or it really is just the business. I mean because I feel like if it was anything else you know especially being able to become free agent Monday, at least have a conversation with somebody you know?

Eagles

Eagles RBs coach Duece Staley says they’re hoping the additions of LeGarrette Blount and rookie Donnel Pumphrey will bring more balance to their running game this season.

Just get back to pounding the ball a little bit, just imposing your will on these defenses, being able to get Blount out there in the secondary,” Staley said, via Tim McManus of ESPN. “I’m pretty sure those safeties will think twice about hitting him.”

“Oh, Doug [Pederson] communicated it himself,” said Staley. “He talked about running the ball: ‘We’re not bringing these guys in here just to sit them up on the shelf. We want to run the ball and we want to impose our will.‘”

Falcons

Falcons DE Vic Beasley is expecting more attention from opposing blocking assignments this year.

It’s just the attention that I’m about to get,” Beasley said, via D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal Consitution. “You get chippers and a lot of attention, whether it is two or three men blocking you. (I) worked on things and practiced those type of things out there on the practice field. Then I’ll try to see if I can apply it to the game.”
