NFL Notes: Jets, Panthers & Seahawks

Jets

  • Daryl Slater of the Newark Star-Ledger expects first-round rookie DL Leonard Williams to gain “a lot” of playing time through the first four weeks of the season, due to the four-game suspension for substance abuse that DL Sheldon Richardson is set to serve.
  • Regardless of this suspension, Slater writes that there is “zero” chance the Jets give up on Richardson when his contract expires in 2017, based on the immense talent that he possesses.
  • Backup DL Leger Douzable is also expected to receive an influx of playing time through the first four weeks.
  • Slater does not envision DE Muhammad Wilkerson holding out for a new contract through training camp.

Panthers

  • David Newton could see Amini Silatolu regaining the starting left guard job this summer.
  • Newton doesn’t see Nate Chandler retaining the starting right tackle job, as it appears as though Mike Remmers and rookie Daryl Williams are the favorites for the job.
  • Newton can’t see the Panthers starting Bene’ Benwikere over veteran CB Charles Tillman.
