NFL Notes: Jets, Raiders, & Saints

Jets

  • Rich Cimini of ESPN writes is time for the Jets to make a move at quarterback.
  • Cimini mentions that while the decision to hold off on re-signing QB Ryan Fitzpatrick will give Geno Smith, Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg for reps, it would be a waste if they don’t have a veteran quarterback in camp by July.
  • Cimini believes the Jets should consider reaching out to free agent DE/OLB Dwight Freeney if they aren’t satisfied with their young edge rushers in the coming months.

Raiders

Despite the increasing buzz about the Raiders possible relocating to Las Vegas, Ben Volin of the Boston Globe doesn’t see this as anything more than leverage play against the city of Oakland.

Volin points to a quote from former Las Vegas Locomotives HC Jim Fassel, who said: “Casinos don’t want patrons at the stadium. They want them gambling.”

Saints

Saints HC Sean Payton said the fact that New Orleans didn’t draft any offensive linemen probably helped them recruit so many of the top undrafted linemen like Landon Turner and Jack Allen.

To credit the scouts and coaches, three, four, five, they all fell into place,” Payton said, per Mike Triplett.

  • Interestingly enough, Payton said that they thought they were signing RB Arian Foster years ago when he was an undrafted free agent, but Foster changed his mind and chose the Texans.
