NFL Notes: Jim Schwartz, Colts, Panthers, & Steelers

Jim Schwartz

Former Bills DC Jim Schwartz said he plans to be “selective” when it comes to his next coaching job.

Coaching is still in my blood and I’m just fortunate at this time of my career where I can be selective about opportunities. Where it goes from here, I don’t know. But you always have to be aware of certain dynamics that may come with it,” Schwartz said, via the Baltimore Sun. “I saw the opening up in Buffalo as a good opportunity, so I took it. But no, right now, I can’t see myself doing anything else. Coaching is something I love, something I have a passion about. Another opportunity will present itself. I’m not too concerned.”

Colts

  • Joel Corry of CBS Sports has confirmed that Trent Richardson’s suspension to end the year for conduct detrimental does in fact void the guaranteed portion of his $3,184,062 2015 base salary.

Panthers

Joe Person of the Charlotte Observer writes that TE Greg Olsen and MLB Luke Kuechly are both in line to receive contract extensions in this offseason.

Olsen mentioned that he would like to finish out his career in Carolina, but there hasn’t been any progress on a long-term agreement as of now.

We’ll see how the offseason goes. There haven’t been any really major developments on that front,” Olsen said of his situation. “Of course, I would love to finish my career there. I’d love to be able to get something done going into this season and know that I’ll be a part of the team for a while.

Steelers

  • Scott Brown of ESPN writes that the Steelers are unlikely to re-sign veteran CB Ike Taylor this offseason.
  • Pittsburgh is hopeful that Cortez Allen will be able to bounce back and replace Taylor as one of the team’s starting cornerbacks.
