NFL Notes: Joey Bosa, Chargers, Josh Brown & Cardinals

Joey Bosa

Mike Freeman of B/R spoke to a few NFL GMs about the strange standoff between the Chargers and first-round DE Joey Bosa.

According to the GMs, the Chargers effectively threw away Bosa’s rookie season with the way they handed this negotiation.

“If Joey Bosa ended his dispute tomorrow,” one NFC GM tells Freeman, “he would barely get something from his rookie year. But it won’t end tomorrow. It could be weeks. So effectively, the Chargers threw away the rookie year of their own high draft pick.”

“His rookie season is over,” said another NFC GM, “and he may not be a Charger.”

Freeman mentions that by saying Bosa’s rookie season is over, they mean it’s effectively over, as he would report to the team too late to make a significant contribution this year.

Interestingly enough, one of the GMs believes there’s a 20 to 30 percent chance refuses to play for the Chargers and instead re-enters next year’s draft.

Cardinals

Cardinals impending free agent DL Calais Campbell said he’s leaving his contract situation up to his agent and instead plans to focus on the upcoming season.

You hire an agent so you don’t have to worry about it, an agent that you feel will do a great job for you and position of power and you go concentrate on football stuff,” said Campbell, via AzCardinals.com. “I let him go to work and I don’t worry about it anymore. I just play football as hard as I can, like I always do.
