NFL Notes: Johnny Manziel, Redskins & Titans

Johnny Manziel

  • According to PageSix.com, former NFL QB Johnny Manziel went missing this weekend when he was supposed to host a small party in the Hamptons for close friends and family.
  • Manziel was scheduled to take a helicopter out east on Saturday, but never showed for the flight. PageSix adds that the helicopter left after 15 minutes after Manziel failed to answer his phone.
  • However, Mary Kay Cabot, citing sources close to Manziel, reports that they’ve been in contact with him as recently as this afternoon, so there doesn’t appear to be much to the story.

Redskins

Redskins veteran CB DeAngelo Hall said he’s settling in nicely at safety this year.

“I’m still learning some different things, but I’m having a blast,” Hall said, via CSN Mid-Atlantic. “I enjoyed being able to get a little taste of it last year, and [now] starting from scratch this year.”

Hall saw time at safety during the 2015 season, but this will be the first year that he can focus specifically on the safety position.

I’m pretty comfortable,” Hall said. “It’s a little different; last year, I played a little more strong than free, and this year I’ll play a little more free than strong. But in our defense you have to be able to do both. You have to be able to interchange. [The offense] can motion one guy, and the free safety becomes the strong safety and the strong safety becomes the free safety. You got to know them both. So, to say I’m free safety really doesn’t mean much because, like I said, one motion and I’m the strong safety in the defense.”

Titans

Titans second-year RB David Cobb says he has “a lot to prove” in 2016, especially now that the Titans have brought in serious competition in the form of veteran DeMarco Murray and second-round pick Derrick Henry.

“It is only natural to think about it,’’ Cobb said, via Jim Wyatt of TitansOnline.com. “The room changes and good guys come in like that, it raises the level of competition. It raises your focus. Every guy wants to play, but at the same time we have a good group that pushes everybody and everybody is supportive.

“Last year I didn’t play as much or had the year that I wanted. I had high expectations for myself. But it’s a new year, a fresh start and I have a lot to prove.
