NFL Notes: Jonathan Vilma, 49ers, Colts, Panthers, & Ravens

Jonathan Vilma

  • Veteran LB Jonathan Vilma announced his retirement on Sunday and was honored during the Saints game.

49ers

  • Matt Barrows reports that no decision has been made regarding the 49ers activating rookie WR DeAndre Smelter off the non-football injury list.
  • San Francisco has until Monday to activate Smelter, but it’s likely to come down to the team’s injury situation after following today’s game.

Colts

Jason La Canfora reports that Colts QB Andrew Luck is progressing well from his injuries and the Colts feel good about him returning in the coming weeks.

According to La Canfora, the Colts view a Week 15 return as the most “realistic opportunity” for him to play. However, La Canfora admits that Week 16 would be more probable.

Panthers

  • The Carolina Panthers officially clinched the NFL South for the third straight year on Sunday after the Buccaneers beat the Falcons.

Ravens

NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy tells Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk that they will look into why Ravens QB Matt Schaub wasn’t removed from Sunday’s game for a concussion evaluation.

“We will look into it as per our normal procedure,” McCarthy said in an email to PFT.
