NFL Notes: Josh Allen, Broncos, Raiders, Rams

Josh Allen

Daniel Jeremiah of NFL.com polled five NFL executives about quarterback comparisons for Wyoming QB Josh Allen.

Surprisingly, former Titans QB Jake Locker came up two times while there was one vote apiece for Ben Roethlisberger, Cam Newton and Paxton Lynch.

“I actually think there are some similarities to his game that will remind people of all three QBs taken early in the 2011 draft (Cam Newton, Blaine Gabbert and Locker),” said one executive. “However, he reminds me more of Locker than the other two. Immensely talented athlete with a big arm but I question his accuracy. Major boom-or-bust prospect.”

Jeremiah believes it will take time to develop Allen at the next level, but he’s still worthy of an investment from an NFL.

Broncos

  • Broncos DE Shane Ray said he is hopeful that the team will pick up his fifth-year option and he loves playing in Denver: “I would hope so. If they want to keep me here, I’d love to be here. I love everything about this place. That’s without question. But that’s not up to me.’’ (Mike Klis)

Raiders

  • Albert Breer wonders if changes could be coming to the Raiders’ coaching staff this offseason.
One name in particular worth watching, according to Breer, is OL coach Mike Tice.
  • As for a possible addition, Breer tosses out current Bears DC Vic Fangio as an interesting addition for Oakland.

Rams

  • Rams HC Sean McVay said K Greg Zuerlein will require a 12-week recovery from surgery on a herniated disk in his back. (Alden Gonzalez)
  • According to McVay, Zuerlein has been playing through the injury throughout the season.
  • On Wednesday, the Rams announced that they’ve placed Zuerlein on injured reserve and signed K bit.ly/2BnNrdn. (NFLTR)
