NFL Notes: Josh Allen, Browns, Ravens, Titans

Josh Allen

While a lot of people have jumped off of Wyoming QB Josh Allen‘s bandwagon this season after he’s struggled to open the year, Daniel Jeremiah says he’s still on board and is impressed with his maturity, passion and intelligence.

In fact, Jeremiah writes that Allen’s upside is “off the charts.”

“Allen’s arm strength and athletic ability jump off the tape, but you need to see him play live in order to fully appreciate it,” Jeremiah writes. “I stood on the field during warmups Saturday and watched him effortlessly throw the ball into the back of the end zone from 60-plus yards out. The ball jumps out of his hand. He throws the deep out from the opposite hash as well as any quarterback I’ve ever scouted. The ball is flat and it gets there in a hurry. He also has the ability to make ridiculous throws on the move to both his right and left. I’d put his skill set (arm strength and athleticism) up against any quarterback in the NFL.

Jeremiah believes Allen should play in the Senior Bowl if he receives an invite.

Browns

  • Browns HC Hue Jackson explained after Sunday’s loss to the Bengals that rookie DeShone Kizer is still the team’s starting quarterback, even though they brought Kevin Hogan during the fourth quarter. (Andrew Siciliano)
  • Jackson added that he only took Kizer out to keep him from getting hit more. “He’s our quarterback. I believe in what he can be.” (Mary Kay Cabot)

Ravens

  • Ian Rapoport reports that the Raiders were planning to promote FB Ricky Ortiz this week with the intention of him being a big part of their game plan. However, after the sustained an injury mid-week, it forced them to regroup.

Titans

  • Titans HC Mike Mularkey told reporters after Sunday’s loss to the Texans that QB Marcus Mariota is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Monday for his hamstring injury. (Jim Wyatt)
  • Should Mariota miss time with this injury, Cassel would be in line to start against the Dolphins, Colts and Browns over the next three weeks.
