NFL Notes: Josh Brown, 49ers, Broncos, Chiefs & Patriots

Josh Brown

  • Adam Schefter reports that Giants K Josh Brown is not expected to appeal the NFL’s decision to place him on Commissioner’s Exempt List.

49ers

49ers HC Chip Kelly mentioned that he has no plans to make changes to his defensive coaching staff, despite some poor performances.

“No, we spend time together during the week,” Kelly said, via Niners Wire. “We carve out time in terms of how we watch film and what we do and understand the plan as we’re moving forward. There’s good communication going on form that standpoint. It’s not like I don’t know what’s going on on the defensive side of the ball.”

Broncos

  • Jon Grudem of ESPN believes the Broncos should at least consider in the idea of a making a short-term move and possibly trading for Tony Romo or Jay Cutler.

Chiefs

Chiefs HC Andy Reid explained that they’re trying to be careful with RB Jamaal Charles, especially after his knee flared up a bit this past week.

“Things were going OK, so I kind of let it ride there,” Chiefs coach Andy Reid said, via Blair Kerkhoff of the Kansas City Star. “His knee puffed up a little this week, and I’m trying to be as careful as we can with him, . . . and with him in my ear wanting to play.”

Patriots

  • Following Sunday’s game, Patriots K Stephen Gostkowski said of his play: “Right now, I stink.” (Mike Reiss)
  • However, Patriots HC Bill Belichick offered some support for Gostkowski, despite his struggles: “Nobody works harder than Steve does. He is a very talented player. He is mentally tough. We’ll work through it. Again, this is a tough place to kick. Not making any excuses; those are kicks that I know he expressed (how he feels) but the kicker on the other side of the field had trouble too. This is a tough … but we gotta make them.”
