NFL Notes: Josh Gordon, Browns, Cardinals

Josh Gordon

  • Jason Cole of B/R, citing sources close to suspended Browns WR Josh Gordon, reports that the former Pro Bowl receiver is in a “desperate financial situation.
  • Gordon was reportedly hoping to be back with the team this offseason, but will now have to wait until September to be reinstated to the NFL.
  • His agent recently fired him, but Gordon and his business manager are hoping to find a new agent willing to pay his expenses until Gordon is ready to return.

Browns

Browns HC Hue Jackson said the other quarterbacks competing for the starting job will “have to take” it away from Cody Kessler.

They better take it from him because I know him – he’s not going to give it up,” Jackson said, via ClevelandBrowns.com. “It will be fun. That is what competition is all about. Until someone takes something from someone and shows that they can do it at a high-level play in and play out, then we have to keep going in the direction where we’re traveling.”

Cardinals

Cardinals HC Bruce Arians mentioned that QB Carson Palmer “probably” won’t throw until the final week of the team’s offseason practices, which would be June 6-8 during minicamp.

He’s just doing everything mentally,” Arians said, via Josh Weinfuss of ESPN. “He tosses some soft ones around in the blitz drills but he doesn’t need to be out there right now. We got four arms for both fields because we’re always going to have our dual practices.

Arians explained that they may have “overworked” Palmer last summer and they plan to give him every Wednesday off.

“Carson’s an overworker,” Arians said. “We’ve learned now how to deal with it.

Palmer has lost some weight and is “healthier, stronger, looks better than he’s ever done,” according to Arians.
