NFL Notes: Josh Gordon, Cowboys, Eagles, Lions

Josh Gordon

Newly reinstated WR Josh Gordon said Wednesday that it’s still his goal to be the best receiver of all time.

“Ultimately my goal is to be the best wide receiver of all time, so I think any wide receiver, any position should see themselves in that way,” Gordon told reporters, via Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer. “For me, that’s always been my goal, and it’s just been re-affirmed for me time and time again and now being back in the situation to do it, I plan on seeing it through.’

Gordon mentioned that he had a “good” meeting with Browns HC Hue Jackson.

“It was good,’‘ Gordon said. “It was a bunch of laughs, a bunch of smiles, coach Jackson’s a great guy. He understands football, he understands players and me and him have a good relationship. He’s supportive more than anything. He’s just shown his support throughout the entirety of my transition coming back and I’m glad to be working with him and I’m glad that he’s here.”

While the Browns previously said that Gordon wasn’t in their plans, it appears as though all parties are interested to see how things play out in the coming months.

Considering my situation, I believe that’s fair just the frustration aspect of it,” Gordon said. “Myself, the franchise, the fans, everybody was frustrated at that point in time, so I understand it. I believe me and coach Jackson, Sashi Brown and the front office have moved on. They obviously welcomed me back into the organization. I’m looking forward to this year.

Jackson said that Gordon is in “tremendous shape.

“I was really impressed sitting across from Josh and talking to him,” Jackson said, per Mary Kay Cabot. “Different than last year, more mature. Tremendous shape, different look in his eye’.

Cowboys

Eagles

  • According to Howard Balzer, the Eagles brought in free agent long snappers Andrew East, Jimmy Landes, and Jeff Overbaugh for tryouts on Tuesday.

Lions

Lions HC Jim Caldwell said that LT Taylor Decker (shoulder) will play “when he’s ready” to go.

When Deck’s ready, Deck’s going to play,” Caldwell said, via Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press. “There’s a reason why he’s here, a reason why we picked him where we picked him. He’ll play when he’s ready.”

Caldwell was unclear about Decker’s timetable for recovery from his shoulder injury.

I told you guys last week, it could have been yesterday, could be next week, could be two weeks. We’ll see,” said Caldwell.
