NFL Notes: Josh McDaniels, Draft, Falcons, Jets, & Raiders

Josh McDaniels

  • According to Peter Schrager, Patriots OC Josh McDaniels interviewed with the Jaguars on Saturday, is now meeting with the Rams, and will also interview with the 49ers on Saturday.

Draft

  • Lance Zeirlein of NFL Media reports that one NFC personnel director said he is not sure if top-ranked Clemson WR Mike Williams will turn into a star at the NFL level and that he will face an adjustment period when lining up against faster and more physical cornerbacks.
  • As for Alabama OT  O.J. Howard, one NFC general manager believes former Alabama OC Lane Kiffinnever really knew what to do with” him” and is not worried about him from a talent standpoint. The GM went on to say that all he needs to know regarding Howard is if he still “loves football.
  • An AFC East scout believes Clemon RB Wayne Gallman could succeed at the NFL level due to his physicality.

Falcons

  • Ian Rapoport writes the Falcons should keep QBs coach Matt LaFleur and offensive assistant Mike McDaniel if OC Kyle Shanahan signs with another team.
  • However, Matt Miller of B/R believes McDaniel becoming Shanahan’s offensive coordinator “makes a lot of sense.”

Jets

  • Alex Marvez confirms with two sources that Bears LBs coach Clint Hurtt is signing a two-year contract with the Jets to become their next OLBs coach.
  • Marvez is told that “at least” one other team was interested in Hurtt.

Raiders

  • Raiders LT Donald Penn said he sustained a small fracture in his knee but does not require surgery, while also saying he could return next week if Oakland wins their Wildcard game. (Adam Schefter)
