NFL Notes: Kirk Cousins, Cardinals, Patriots

Kirk Cousins

  • Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, citing a source with knowledge of the situation, is reporting that there’s still “nothing going on” between the Redskins and franchise QB Kirk Cousins ahead of tomorrow’s deadline.
  • Earlier in the day, Adam Schefter reported that the Redskins are not expected to sign Cousins to a long-term extension before Monday’s 4 pm EST deadline. Schefter admitted that Washington could still make a last-minute push to try to get a deal done, but Cousins fully intends to play this season under the franchise tag. (NFLTR)

Cardinals

Cardinals RB David Johnson mentioned during an interview with SiriusXM Fantasy Sports Radio that there’s “definitely” room for him to carry the ball more in 2017.

“I feel like there’s room for me to definitely carry more,” Johnson said, via NFL.com. “I think the biggest thing is me learning and getting better and improving. So I feel like I can definitely get that 30 touches, not all rushing obviously, 30 touches per game.

“I feel like I definitely have the ability to do that just because I’m a young guy still in my first contract, feeling great — knee’s 100 percent, no problems — and I’m ready to go.

Patriots

Former Jets LB David Harris explained that he pretty much jumped at the chance to play for the Patriots after they made him an offer.

“They reached out to me and I pretty much accepted on the spot that I wanted to play there,” Harris told woodtv.com Saturday. “Great organization. They’re the gold standard of the NFL. Why wouldn’t you want to be part of that?
