NFL Notes: Landon Collins, Hue Jackson, Demaryius Thomas

Landon Collins

Giants S Landon Collins tells Ryan Dunleavy of NJ.com that they’ve yet to open contract talks regarding a long-term extension.

We’ll see,” Collins said when asked if he expects to be here for a long time. “We’ve still got to through negotiations and stuff. We haven’t even started that yet. We have to see how it goes.

I’m glad to still be playing. I’m glad to be here with my boys.”

Collins admitted that the hours leading up to the trade deadline were stressful for him.

The last couple hours were stressful,” Collins said. “I had to think about everything. Whether I had to pack up and go. It was very stressful.

We have him featured in our Top 25 – 2019 NFL Free Agents list.

Hue Jackson

Former Browns HC Hue Jackson said in a recent interview with ESPN’s Adam Schefter that he would “absolutely” take an assistant job this year.

“Oh absolutely,’’ Jackson said, via Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer. “If there’s somebody who I know and trust and respect, felt like they needed me to help or to do something for them along the lines of assisting in any way that I can to help them be as good as they can be on gameday, I would do that in a heartbeat.

Jackson added that he’s also open to offensive coordinator jobs next year if they end up being available.

Oh absolutely, I would,’’ Jackson said. “And I’m not going to run from the opportunity to sit in the head chair again either. I know I can do it. There’s no question in my mind that I can. I know my record doesn’t say that and rightfully so. I get it. But I know that I can go coordinate offenses in the National Football League tomorrow if given an opportunity. . . .

“I truly believe that there’s another coordinator position out there for me.

Demaryius Thomas

Former Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas admitted it was tough in the days leading up to the trade deadline, particularly given that he was told the rumors of being possibly being moved were fake.

“When he said that to me, I said, ‘How is it not true? My agent [Todd France] called me today and said Elway wanted a fifth-round pick for me,’” Thomas said, via 9News.com. “So, we’re telling stories to each other now? I thought we were going to be men about this.

“. . . Listening to that from him and then another couple of coaches coming up to me saying, ‘It’s all fake; it’s all fake,’ and then it really happens, it’s like, ‘Man.’ It is what it is, though.

  • Tom Pelissero reports that the Broncos recall the conversations with Thomas differently and no one guaranteed him that he wasn’t going to be traded.
