NFL Notes: Las Vegas, Bengals, Panthers, Redskins

Las Vegas

Jason Cole of B/R reports that the rift between the Raiders and multiple entities Las Vegas and Nevada has become so bad that some people in Vegas have actually been trying to lure a different NFL team to the city.

Interestingly enough, Cole says that the Jaguars would be the “most obvious” team for Las Vegas to target. However, Jaguars owner Shad Kahn made it just this past week that he has no interest in moving the team to Las Vegas and instead plans to make things work in the city of Jacksonville.

If Vegas is unable to lure an NFL team to Nevada, Cole says that they could use the $750 million of public funds elsewhere.

Bengals

  • Katherine Terrell reports that court documents show Bengals CB Adam Jones has requested and been granted another continuance of his assault case.
  • Terrell says that Jones’ new hearing is now scheduled for March 23, which happens to be a few weeks after the start of free agency.

Falcons

New Falcons OC Steve Sarkisian said Thursday that he plans to be an “aggressive” play-caller.

“I’m an aggressive by nature play-caller, and that’s something (coach Dan Quinn) believes in,” Sarkisian said.

Sarkisian cited Dan Quinn’s “vision“, “passion for the game” and the culture he’s created with the Falcons as reasons why he decided to join him in Atlanta.

Panthers

The Carolina Panthers announced Thursday that president Danny Morrison has resigned from his position with the team.

I have enjoyed my time with the Panthers and want to thank Mr. Richardson and everyone involved with the organization,” Morrison said. “This is something I have been thinking about for a while and the timing is right with the start of the business year. We have made great progress in a number of areas, but there are other endeavors, particularly on the college level, that interest me as a final chapter in my career.”

“Danny has made significant contributions to the Panthers over the last seven years and provided guidance to our business operations,” Panthers Owner/Founder Jerry Richardson said. “He came to us from a college background and learned the NFL quickly. Danny has great integrity and embodies our core values. We thank him for his contributions and wish him the best.

Redskins

  • The Redskins announced Thursday that they’ve hired James Rowe as their new assistant defensive backs coach.
