NFL Notes: LeSean McCoy, PED Investigation, & Cowboys

LeSean McCoy

LeSean McCoy‘s attorney, Dennis Cogan, said that he does not expect Pennsylvania Attorney General’s office to bring charges against his client regarding a nightclub incident that took place back in February.

“We have not received any official word from the AG’s office about this,” Cogan said, via Vic Carucci of the Buffalo News. “However, the standard for intervening after the DA has decided not to prosecute is the highest standard of the law. It’s got to be an abuse of discretion by the DA, and then the AG office could still not intervene unless they got permission to intervene from President Judge of Common Please Court in the Philadelphia.

“Under the facts of this case, that would be literally impossible.”

PED Investigation

NFL executive Adolpho Birch responded to the NFLPA’s letter from earlier in the week questioning the league’s investigation into the Al Jazeera report.

While we readily agree that such evidence is required to support the imposition of discipline, nothing in the CBA or the policy imposes such a requirement before possible violations of the policy may be investigated,” Birch said, via Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk. “Obviously, the standard that you advocate — that the league cannot undertake an investigation unless and until it has established the facts and claims to be investigated — would simply ensure that there would be no investigations at all.  For the same reason, we are under no obligation to disclose all evidence uncovered thus far as a condition to interviewing the players, which would clearly compromise the investigation.”

Cowboys

  • Todd Archer writes that it’s time for the Cowboys to move on from LB Rolando McClain following the news that he’s been suspended for 10 games after violating the league’s substance abuse policy.
  • Cutting McClain would leave the Cowboys out the $750,000 signing bonus they gave him, but would also free up $2.625 million in available cap space.
