NFL Notes: Le’Veon Bell, Colin Kaepernick, Draft

Le’Veon Bell

  • Matt Miller of B/R hears that free agent RB Le’Veon Bell won’t have that many suitors in free agency and the word around the NFL right now is that the Jets aren’t excited to pay him the money he expects.

  • Miller mentions that the Raiders could end up being Bell’s best option to get paid this offseason.
  • Tony Pauline also hears that Bell is a “long shot” to end up with the Jets.

Colin Kaepernick

  • Mike Freeman spoke with a number of NFL team officials who speculated that Colin Kaepernick’s settlement with the NFL could be in the $60 to $80 million range.

Draft

Matt Miller of B/R spoke with some NFL sources about prospects they felt are being overrated right now.

  • Dwayne Haskins: “Haskins scares me, but he has the most traits to work with. Still, he’s not [Jared] Goff or anything. He would have been QB4 in last year’s class,” an NFC area scout tells Miller.
  • Greg Little: “I think this one is pretty obvious because the hype on him has really died down. I remember reading a mock draft in midseason that had him as a top-15 pick, and he was just never that good,” said an NFC area scout.
  • Dexter Lawrence: “It’s nothing against the kid, but teams should know better than to draft a nose tackle early. He’s Vita Vea. He’s Danny Shelton. These guys are never worth the early pick,” an AFC general manager said.
