NFL Notes: Los Angeles, Brian Hoyer, Bills, & Jets

Los Angeles

  • Albert Breer report that there are a lot of scenarios being discussed right now in regards to the Rams, Raiders, and Chargers relocating to Los Angeles.
  • According to Breer, the Raiders are unlikely to be the first team to move to Los Angeles.

Brian Hoyer

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports that NFL executives believe Browns QB Brian Hoyer could secure a contract that pays him $8 million annually as of now.

La Canfora adds that it’s conceivable that Hoyer’s asking price could climb to as much as $12 million to $16 million per year. This would leave him close to the contracts secured by Alex Smith and Andy Dalton.

La Canfora mentions that the Texans, Jets, Rams, Bills, Titans, Dolphins and Cardinals could all be looking for a new quarterback next year.

Bills

Jason La Canfora reports that the Bills new ownership is expected to bring in an experienced football man to oversee their transition into the league and evaluate the organization as a whole.

  • According to La Canfora, the new owners are also planning to restructure the franchise.
  • Potential candidates include: Ernie Acrosi, Mike Holmgren and Ron Wolf.
  • Team president/CEO Russ Brandon is expected to remain with the team.

Jets

  • Ian Rapoport reports that it’s “highly unlikely” that the Jets would fire either HC Rex Ryan or GM John Idzik midseason.
  • Rapoport adds that there is a chance that Ryan could be back next season if they miss the playoffs but finish strong.
  • The Jets were concerned about firing Ryan last year and him coming back to haunt them after landing a new job, according to Rapoport.
