NFL Notes: Los Angeles, Realignment, & Rams

Los Angeles

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, citing several high-ranking ownership sources, reports that the joint stadium project between the Chargers and Raiders in Carson continues to gain momentum and there was “strong positive buzz” regarding the project at the owners meeting.

As for Rams owner Stan Kroenke’s Los Angeles project, La Canfora mentions that there are concerns as to whether he’ll be able to force his way out of St. Louis without a protracted fight.

Several sources who spoke to La Canfora maintained that they consider the Chargers/Raiders project in Carson as the “early favorite.

Interestingly enough, La Canfora says that Kroenke’s “full-speed-ahead approach” has “rubbed the league office the wrong way.

Realignment

Jason La Canfora reports that “some in the know” have speculated that the Chargers could be asked to move to the NFC in exchange for relocating to Los Angeles.

If this were to happen, La Canfora suggests the Cardinals could relocate to the AFC West, which would allow the Raiders to maintain their long rivalries with Chiefs and Broncos.

According to La Canfora, the possibility of realignment wouldn’t be a hindrance to teams relocating to the Los Angeles market.

Rams

KTLA is reporting the NFL will announce in August that the Rams will be returning to Southern California.

The reporter asked the Inglewood mayor about this news to which he responded: “You have a pretty good source.”
