NFL Notes: Los Angles, Eagles, Jets, & Packers

Los Angeles

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports that many of the NFL’s influential owners have reservations about the Raiders being included in the joint stadium project in Carson, California.

According to La Canfora, their concerns come down to the strength of the Raiders’ ownership group, which could result in no teams relocating to Los Angles in 2016.

In fact, sources have told La Canfora that the odds of a move happening to L.A. next year would be “significantly higher” if the Chargers were either moving by themselves, or if they were paired with the Rams.

La Canfora mentions that some owners believe it makes much more sense for the return to L.A. to begin with one team rather than two. However, figuring out a way for the Chargers and Rams to partner up would be “best-case scenario.”

Oakland is reportedly considered to be a better locale for the Raiders, given the overall strength of the Bay Area. La Canfora leaves open the possibility that the Raiders could potentially move to St. Louis should the Chargers and Rams end up going to Los Angeles together.

Eagles

• Jeff McLane reports that Eagles HC Chip Kelly called LeSean McCoy this week, but after Kelly identified himself, McCoy hung up.
• Mike Garafolo adds that Kelly called back a few times and was intent on burying the hatchet this week. However, it appears as though McCoy isn’t interested.

Jets

• Despite the reports that there’s mutual interest between the Jets and QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, Joel Corry mentions that New York would be wise to keep their quarterback options open.
• Corry believes Saints QB Drew Brees should be a short-term consideration if things don’t work out with Saints.

Packers

It’s still very earlier in regards to GM searches, but Packers executive Eliot Wolf has already been a popular name linked to a few jobs, including the Lions.

Jason La Canfora reports that there is a “strong consensus of support” for Wolf to be a future general manager, and the expectation is that he’ll draw interest from several teams over the next few months.

However, sources tell La Canfora that will be difficult to convince Wolf to leave Green Bay, as he’s viewed internally as the heir apparent to current GM Ted Thompson by many in the organization.

According to La Canfora, “despite all of the interest in him, a departure would be viewed as a surprise at this point.”
