NFL Notes: Michael Floyd, Cowboys, Jets, Texans

Michael Floyd

Free agent WR Michael Floyd mentioned that he didn’t think he was going to be released by the Cardinals after his DUI last year.

“It hurt actually,” Floyd said, via ESPN.com. “It sucked, but I knew something was going to happen, but I did not actually think I was going to get released at all.

“When I did, obviously because of the decision that I made, they made that decision. I went home from work and I felt bad about everything. I felt bad from the beginning, knowing I was in trouble, and I knew there was going to be some punishment. I just felt terrible.

Floyd even said he “100 percent” wished the incident didn’t happen so he could’ve stayed in Arizona for the remainder of the season.

Cowboys

  • Dan Graziano of ESPN believes the Cowboys should target Giants free agent DE Jason Pierre-Paul in free agency to improve their pass rush next season.
  • Graziano admits it seems doubtful Dallas will spend the kind of money it will take to land Pierre-Paul in free agency, but he doesn’t the idea is all that crazy either, even if the Cowboys target a pass-rusher in the draft.

Jets

  • Rich Cimini writes that the first key personnel move for the Jets will likely involve LT Ryan Clady and take place in the next few days.
  • Clady is owed a $1 million roster bonus on Wednesday and stands to make a non-guaranteed salary of $10 million for the 2017 season.
  • Cimini expects the Jets to release Clady on Wednesday, considering that he carries a $10.5 million cap figure, has dealt with injuries throughout his career, and New York could use the cap space.
  • Cimini does, however, leave open the possibility that they could try to rework Clady’s contract and retain him at a lower price, considering that it could be difficult to replace him this offseason due to the limited options at left tackle.
  • Cimini adds that it would be wise for the Jets to re-sign free agent OT Ben Ijalana and allow him to compete with Brandon Shell at right tackle.

Texans

  • John McClain of the Houston Chronicle doesn’t see the Texans trading for QB Tony Romo. However, should Romo be released by the Cowboys at some point, he expects the Texans to at least check him out.
  • McClain adds that Romo would have to be willing to take a “huge pay cut” to play for Houston.
  • If the Patriots do, in fact, field trade offers for backup QB Jimmy Garoppolo, McClain can see New England reaching out to the Texans about a potential deal.
