NFL Notes: Michael Floyd, Jaguars, Redskins, Seahawks

Michael Floyd

  • Recent reports have mentioned that free agent WR Michael Floyd is drawing interest from NFL teams including the Vikings. (NFLTR)
  • However, Ben Volin writes that it’s unlikely anyone will sign Floyd until May 9, which is when he will no longer factor into a team’s 2018 compensatory picks.
  • Floyd is currently under house arrest until June 17 for an extreme DUI that led to him being cut by the Cardinals last year.
  • We have him featured in our Top 50 Available Free Agents list.

Jaguars

  • Ryan O’Halloran of the Florida Times-Union writes that barring a terrible 2017 season, it appears as though the Jaguars are committed to QB Blake Bortles beyond this year.
  • Jacksonville somewhat surprisingly picked up Bortles’ fifth-year option that will run them $19.053 million (guaranteed for injury only) for the 2018 season.
  • O’Halloran believes it could be a mistake for the Jaguars to insist that there’s an open competition between Branden Albert and second-round pick Cam Robinson if Albert shows up in shape and is committed to helping the team.
  • According to O’Halloran, Jacksonville should just slot Robinson in at left guard, which could solidify that side of their offensive line.

Redskins

According to Redskins president Bruce Allen, they have yet to make a decision regarding their GM vacancy, despite a recent report.

“No, there has been no decisions made,” Allen said during an appearance on ESPN 980 Friday. “The process, we are going to take our time. We want to get it right what we do. . . . There is no submission to the league on a form or anything like that. We are going to keep talking and decide what is the best thing for the Redskins.

Allen added that nothing has really changed from their original plan, which is that they’ll be adding someone to their personnel department in some capacity.

As far as what we are going to do, it hasn’t changed since March,” Allen said. “We are going to be in the process of looking to see what we need to add to our personnel department to enhance the people that are here. There is some good quality people out there that’s available that we are talking to. We are going to put together the right team with the Redskins that is going to help us win.

Seahawks

  • Ben Volin of the Boston Globe writes that the Seahawks put CB Richard Sherman, SS Kam Chancellor, and FS Earl Thomas all on the hot seat after they selected three safeties and a cornerback on day three of this year’s NFL draft.
  • Seattle was open about discussing trades involving Sherman this offseason, but it now appears to be very likely he’ll remain in Seattle for the 2017 season.
  • Chancellor is entering the final year of his contract and coming off of surgery to his ankles.
  • Beyond that, Thomas is working his way back from a broken leg has still has another two years left on his deal worth a total of $17 million.
