NFL Notes: Mike McCoy, Chargers, Eagles & Jaguars

Mike McCoy

  • Jason La Canfora reports that former Chargers HC Mike McCoy is the “hottest” name among the available offensive coordinator candidates right now.
  • Interestingly enough, La Canfora says that Panthers DC Sean McDermott “would love” to be paired with former Chargers HC Mike McCoy. McDermott reportedly had a “very strong” interview with Buffalo in recent days.
  • Even so, La Canfora could see McCoy at least getting some interest in regards to a potential head-coaching job.

Chargers

  • According to Jason La Canfora, both Buccaneers DC Mike Smith and Chiefs special teams coordinator Dave Toub are “very viable” candidates for the Chargers’ position.
  • In the end, La Canfora expects one of Smith and Toub to land a job.

Eagles

  • Earlier in the week, the Eagles denied the Jets permission to interview QBs coach John DeFilippo for their offensive coordinator job. (NFLTR)
  • According to Jason La Canfora, the decision wasn’t anything personal, but just a business decision in the end from the Eagles.
  • Sources tell La Canfora that the Eagles don’t what DeFilippo going anywhere, given the work he’s done with Carson Wentz.
  • Interestingly enough, La Canfora says that Lions DC Teryl Austin was also interested in bringing him along as his offensive coordinator, should he get a head-coaching job. However, the Eagles are against this as well.

Jaguars

  • According to Jason La Canfora, interim coach Doug Marrone remains “well-positioned” to get a “very strong look” from Jacksonville for the head-coaching job.
