NFL Notes: Nick Foles, Antonio Brown, Kyler Murray

Nick Foles

  • Tom Pelissero of NFL Media says that while the Jaguars have been mentioned as the most logical landing spot for QB Nick Foles, they may be reluctant to part with a draft pick on top of signing Foles to a market value contract.
  • According to Pelissero, the Eagles could end up being disappointed if they’re counting on the Jaguars to drive the trade market for Foles.

Antonio Brown

  • According to Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio, the Steelers could consider suspending WR Antonio Brown for conduct detrimental to the team in order to send a message that Brown can either play for the Steelers or for no one.
  • The CBA allows teams to suspend players for up to four weeks during the season, but Florio says it would be an aggressive interpretation if the Steelers tried to suspend Brown now.
  • Florio also says the strategy could blow up in the Steelers’ face if Brown calls their bluff and makes the distraction even bigger than it already is.
  • Aditi Kinkhabwala reports that NFL teams are worried that Antonio Brown is a “headache.”
  • Kinkhabwala explains that the best-case scenario for Pittsburgh is for the Steelers to convince teams there were mitigating circumstances with Brown and he’s still a “hard-working, productive, smiley” guy.
  • Front office sources have told Kinkhabwala that the biggest challenge for Brown right now will be proving that he will indeed respect his new club, his new coach and his new teammates, which includes showing up to meetings.

Kyler Murray

Kyler Murray says it was tough to inform that Oakland A’s of his plans to pursue an NFL career after how much they invested in him.

“Yeah, just because they invested so much in me,” Murray said, via the Norman Transcript. “Obviously [the A’s] were the best throughout this whole process letting me do my own thing, watching me play football from afar. That led me to believe how much I meant to them. Those are relationships I’ll have forever. At the end of the day, they drafted me and in my heart i’ll always be an A because they took the time to do that. Obviously it’s a dream come true to be drafted No. 9 in the first round to them. It was kind of tough. It’s not like breaking up with a girlfriend but it was hard to have that conversation, for sure.”
