NFL Notes Panthers, Patriots, Redskins, Texans

Panthers

Panthers LB Thomas Davis said he is happy with his one-year, $6.75 million extension and believes it’s a fair deal for both parties, considering that it allows them to still re-sign other players like TE Greg Olsen.

It’s fair for me as a player and it’s fair for the organization moving forward,” Davis said, via Joe Person of the Charlotte Observer. “It’s not going to be a situation where it’s going to limit us from being able to sign other guys in the future, and I’m happy about that.”

Patriots

  • Patriots third-round DE Derek Rivers (knee) and OT LaAdrian Waddle flew back to Boston Wednesday night for further evaluation as the team remains in West Virginia. (Mike Giardi)

Redskins

  • Redskins WR Josh Doctson said he is feeling recovered from his hamstring injury: “I’m good. It feels good.” (John Keim)
  • Redskins HC Jay Gruden has yet to rule out Doctson from Saturday’s preseason game and will continue to evaluate him: “[Thursday] we’re going to see how much more he can do and then we’ll make a decision on Saturday.

Texans

Texans QB Deshaun Watson said he feels he believes he can control the team’s offense right now.

Honestly, in the spring I knew what I was doing, but at the same time my head was swimming,” Watson said, via ESPN.com. “But whenever I step on the field today, I can go out there and control the offense and do what they ask me to do and make good decisions, fast. I’m just trying to improve in all areas and continue to do that.

“It’s one of those things where it just kind of clicks and everyone sees it,” Watson added. “I’ll feel it, Coach OB [O’Brien] will feel it. But right now I’m just being patient, taking it one day at a time, learning as much as I can.”
