NFL Notes: Peyton Manning, Browns, Chiefs, Raiders, & Saints

Peyton Manning

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk writes that the biggest question regarding Peyton Manning and the Broncos is whether Denver would prefer to have him at a lower cap number or at a lower 2015 cash figure.

As of now, Manning would count $21.5 million against the team’s cap and is owed $19 million for the 2015 season.

Florio writes that a team like the Texans could have interest in Manning if he were to be available.

Browns

  • Browns owner Jimmy Haslam mentioned that 2014 first-round pick Justin Gilbert needs to mature.

Justin clearly needs to mature,” Haslam said, via the Akron Beacon-Journal. “I’m not telling you anything I hadn’t told him in the past and hopefully he’ll be able to do that. But we’re fully supportive of Justin.”

Chiefs

  • Adam Teicher doesn’t expect the Chiefs to target a quarterback in this year’s draft.
  • According to Teicher, getting help at receiver and offensive line are much bigger needs for the Chiefs than taking a inside linebacker in round one of the draft.
  • Teicher views Justin Houston as the team’s top priority with Rodney Hudson as their No. 2.
  • Teicher can see the Chiefs moving on from Josh Mauga and Ron Parker if need be.
  • Joe McKnight is someone the Chiefs could bring back if healthy, according to Teicher.

Raiders

  • Bill Williamson writes that Adrian Peterson would make sense for the Raiders, if he were to be available.
  • Williamson rules out the idea of the Raiders bringing back MLB Rolando McClain next year.
  • According to Williamson, it’s very likely Matt Schaub won’t be back with the Raiders.
  • Williamson suggests using backup QB Matt McGloin as trade bait if they have interest in signing someone like Josh McCown.

Saints

  • Evan Woodbery has some contract details for Shayne Graham and Parys Haralson, who both re-signed with the Saints this week.
  • Both players signed minimum contracts based on their service time in the NFL.
  • Graham receives a one-year deal worth $970,000 while Haralson signed a one-year contract worth $870,000.
  • Woodbery mentions that the two players received signing bonuses totaling $90,000, although it’s unclear how it was split.
