NFL Notes: Peyton Manning, Titans, Broncos, & Jets

Peyton Manning

  • Peyton Manning recently mentioned at the Middle Tennessee Sports Awards on Thursday that he has no plans to come out of retirement or to take a coaching position, via the Tennessean.
  • Interestingly enough, Manning admitted that he was “pretty close” to signing with the Titans as an unrestricted free agent a year ago.

Broncos

Broncos restricted LB Brandon Marshall told reporters on Thursday that he loves being in Denver and part of the organization.

“I love it here. I love it here, man,” Marshall said, via Jeff Legwold of ESPN. “Ever since I got here, in 2013, they’ve treated me like family, even when I was on the practice squad. It just shows, I’m really all about ball, getting better and being with the team. … To stay away, that’s not me. I feel comfortable being here.”

Broncos DC Wade Phillips mentioned that he expects the team to take care of Marshall at some point and get an agreement in place on a long-term deal.

This club is always going to take care of somebody that helped them win a championship like that,” Phillips said. “So I feel like that will get worked out sooner or later. They’ll help anybody that does that.”

Jets

  • Rich Cimini mentioned that he expects second-year WR Devin Smith (ACL) to open the year on the PUP list. Cimini adds that Smith is likely “doubtful” for the start of the season.
  • In regards to QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, Cimini doesn’t think the Jets would really need to budge on their offer to him, considering that they’re essentially bidding against themselves.
