NFL Notes: Philip Rivers, Draft, Bears, Jets, & Saints

Philip Rivers

Jay Glazer of FOX Sports tells Pro Football Talk that the trade rumors regarding Charger QB Philip Rivers is “agent driven.”

This would make sense given that the team has remained adamant that they plan on Rivers being their starting quarterback moving forward. On top of that, the Chargers have also approached him regarding a contract extension in recent days, so they’re clearly interested in keeping him in San Diego.

Draft

  • Missouri DE/OLB Shane Ray said that he’s been in contact with teams positioned later in the first round in recent days. Ray added that he’s spoken to commissioner Roger Goodell regarding his recent incident. (Kevin Patra)

Bears

  • Clemson DE/OLB Vic Beasley hasn’t had “any real conversations” with the Bears. (Peter Schrager)

Jets

Saints

Saints GM Mickey Loomis confirmed that they’re open to drafting a young quarterback.

“You’re always looking to get a young quarterback in the program,” Loomis told reporters on Wednesday, via Kristian Garic of WWL Radio. “If the opportunity presents (itself), we might take another one.
