Possible Veteran Cuts

Joel Corry of CBS Sports takes a look at nine significant players that he believes could be cut as teams trim their rosters down to 53 players.

These players include:

• 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick
• Broncos QB Mark Sanchez
• Jets CB Dee Milliner
• Seahawks G Jahri Evans
• Texans QB Brandon Weeden
• Browns CB Tramon Williams
• Broncos RB Ronnie Hillman
• Jets QB Bryce Petty
• Titans RB Bishop Sankey

Peyton Manning

• According to Pro Football Talk, a source with “knowledge” of retired QB Peyton Manning‘s plans said a possible return to the NFL is “not an option.”

Cardinals

• Cardinals’ DB Tyrann Matheiu (ACL) and WR John Brown (head) have been cleared to play in Thursday’s preseason finale.
• However, HC Bruce Arians would not indicate whether he plans on playing them, saying: “whether I play them, we’ll wait and see.”

Raiders

• Vic Tafur of the San Francisco Chronicle does not think the Raiders would trade backup QB Matt McGloin for draft picks, since fourth-round QB Connor Cook is not yet ready to be the team’s No. 2 option.
