NFL Notes: Bengals, Bucs, Eagles, Jaguars, & Raiders

Bengals

  • Tom Pelissero of USA Today insists that Bengals QB coach Ken Zampese is a logical choice to fill the team’s vacancy at offensive coordinator.
  • It is worth mentioning that Zampese has been the Bengals’ quarterbacks coach since 2003.

Buccaneers

  • Peter Schrager mentions that former Falcons HC Mike Smith is a name to keep an eye on for the Buccaneers’ defensive coordinator position.

Eagles

  • Anthony Gargano of Fox Sports reports that former Vikings HC Brad Childress is likely to be the Eagles’ next offensive coordinator.
  • In addition to bringing in Childress, Jeff McLane believes Pat Shurmur could also be in the mix to be the Eagles’ offensive coordinator.
  • Peter Schrager mentions former Lions HC Jim Schwartz as a candidate to become the Eagles’ defensive coordinator.

Jaguars

  • Tom Pelissero writes that with the Jaguars nearly $70 million or so under the 2016 salary cap, they could consider making a run at Broncos free agent OLB Von Miller and complicate negotiations with the Broncos.

Raiders

Former San Antonio Spurs and Minnesota Vikings owner Red McCombs spoke with Raiders owner Mark Davis and said that San Antonio has a “whole program put together” to relocate the Raiders to San Antonio.

We still have to get them to want to come here,” McCombs said, via Vic Tafur of the San Francisco Chronicle. “He was born and raised there and he has a great feeling for the state of California. But it appears he is going to need to go somewhere.”

The NFL would have to approve a Raiders move to San Antonio, but McCombs does not anticipate the league stopping the team from relocating for the second time.

We already have 12 of the corporate entities nailed down and ready with serious commitments,” said McCombs. “We proved it with the Spurs. They said it wouldn’t work at all, and it just happens to be the best franchise now in all of sports.”

Davis reportedly doesn’t have a lot of trust in Oakland’s government to get a new stadium deal done. Beyond that, Jason Cole of B/R reported that statements made from politicians in Oakland have may ultimately turned Davis off and created the appearance as though they plan to use leverage in negotiations regarding a new stadium.

We’ll have more regarding the Raiders and San Antonio as the news is available.
