NFL Notes: Rams, Packers & Seahawks

 

Rams

Dan Pompei of the Bleacher Report confirms that the Rams’ plan for No. 2 overall pick Greg Robinson is to have him play left guard this season.

St. Louis signed veteran G Davin Joseph a little over a week ago, which could have been a sign that they had changed their minds regarding what to do with Robinson in year one.

According to Pompei, the Rams would like to have their best five on the field, which means Robinson would have to play guard while Jake Long mans the left tackle position and Joe Barksdale starts at right tackle.

Pompei writes that Robinson could end up having more value at guard as they could use a more powerful player at guard who is capable of giving them an edge in the trenches against the tough defenses in the NFC West.

The Rams reportedly still view Robinson as their long-term left tackle, but their offensive line depth will allow them to ease Robinson into their offense.

Seahawks

Seahawks OC Darrell Bevell mentioned during the team’s annual Town Hall meeting Wednesday night that they plan to employ more of a “running back by committee” approach in 2014.

Bevell spoke highly of second-year RB Christine Michael and his development, so it appears as though he could end up cutting into Marshawn Lynch‘s workload this season.

HC Pete Carroll added that the team’s running game will continue to be a focal point of the team’s offense moving forward.

“We want to run the football whenever we want to,” Carroll said, via Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times. “…We are an absolutely committed running football team.”

It probably makes a good deal of sense to start limiting the number of hits Lynch is taking in the coming years as he draws closer to being 30 years old. Michael looks like he could be a great compliment as he possesses the ability to break off huge gains while Lynch is able to breakdown defenses with his physical running style.

If Seattle is capable of finding a solid balance between their top-two running backs, there is a chance that they could be even more productive and dangerous this season, especially when you factor in Russell Wilson‘s ability to run as well.

Packers 

According to Dan Pompei of the Bleacher Report, the Packers see second-round pick WR Davante Adams as a similar player to James Jones, who they lost in free agency a few months ago.

Green Bay had plenty of receivers still on the board at No. 53 overall such as Cody Latimer, Allen Robinson and Jarvis Landry, but Adams could end up filling an immediate hole in their offense. Other receivers like Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb and Jarrett Boykin can focus on what they have been doing while hopefully allowing Adams to step in and mitigate the loss of a solid contributor.

Last year, Adams caught 131 passes for 1,719 yards receiving and a mind-blowing 24 touchdowns over the course of 13 games.
